GY-271 QMC5883L 3-axis Electronic Compass Module Magnetic Field Sensor (GY-271 QMC5883L 3-axis Magnetic Field Sensor)

The GY-271 is supposed to have an HMC5883L, but some boards have a QMC5883L which has the same basic capability, but is not compatible with the H. The GY-271 QMC5883L 3-axis Electronic Compass Module Magnetic Field Sensor is designed for low field magnetic sensing with a digital interface and it is perfect to give precise heading information. If you get a GY-271 board and observe an I2C address of 0x0C and read back nothing but zeros from the board, then you probably have a QMC5883L chip!

This compact sensor fits into small projects such as UAVs and robot navigation systems. The sensor converts any magnetic field to a differential voltage output on 3 axes. This voltage shift is the raw digital output value, which can then be used to calculate headings or sense magnetic fields coming from different directions.

A development board that provides a simple interface for the HMC5883L (three-axis magnetic field module).

HMC5883L and QMC5883L module don’t have too much difference. HMC5883L is made by Honeywell. but because the production is about to be stopped, so we use a similar compass module-QMC5883L instead. QMC5883L is made by a Chinese company, they get the production authorization of HMC5883L from Honeywell, and rename it QMC5883L. So QMC5883L and HMC5883L basically are the same, they shares the same hardware design. Just their register is a bit different. We only need to change the software a bit.

GY-273 QMC5883L 3 Axis Module Magnetic Field Sensor (GY-273 QMC5883L 3 Axis Module Magnetic Field Sensor)

The GY-273 module is based on the Honeywell QMC5883L IC for low-field magnetic sensing with a digital interface for applications such as low cost compassing and magnetometry. The QMC5883L includes state-of-threat, high-resolution QMC118X series magneto-resistive sensors plus an ASIC containing amplification; automatic degaussing strap drivers, offset cancellation, and a 12-bit ADC that enables 1° to 2° compass heading accuracy. The I2C serial bus allows for an easy interface.

The QMC5883L utilizes Honeywell’s Anisotropic Magnetoresistive (AMR)technology that provides advantages over other magnetic sensor technologies. These anisotropic, directional sensors feature precision in-axis sensitivity and linearity.

These sensors’ solid-state construction with very low cross-axis sensitivity is designed to measure both the direction and the magnitude of Earth’s magnetic fields, from milli-gauss to 8 gausses. Honeywell’s Magnetic Sensors are among the most sensitive and reliable low-field sensors in the industry.

Note: Sometimes markings on these boards vary slightly (e.g. Some may be labeled ‘HW-127’ instead of ‘GY-273’ even though they are otherwise identical).

Applications :

  • Auto and personal navigation
  • UAV systems
  • Robotic navigation
  • Location-based services (LBS)

ADXL335 Module 3-axis Analog Output Accelerometer (ADXL335 Module 3-axis Analog Output Accelerometer)

The ADXL335 is a small, thin, low-power, complete 3-axis accelerometer with signal conditioned voltage outputs. The ADXL335 Module 3-axis Analog Output Accelerometer measures acceleration with a minimum full-scale range of ±3 g.

It can measure the static acceleration of gravity in tilt-sensing applications, as well as dynamic acceleration resulting from motion, shock, or vibration. This breakout board comes with an onboard voltage regulator and works at both 3.3V & 5V (3-5V).

An accelerometer is an electro-mechanical device that will measure acceleration forces. These forces may be static, like the constant force of gravity pulling at your feet, or they could be dynamic – caused by moving or vibrating the accelerometer.

Applications :

  • FPV, RC, and Robots systems
  • GPS navigation systems
  • Impact recognition and logging
  • Gaming and virtual reality input devices
  • Motion-activated functions
  • Intelligent power saving for handheld devices
  • Vibration monitoring and compensation
  • Free-fall detection
  • 6D-orientation detection
Features :
  • Onboard LDO Voltage regulator
  • Can be interfaced with a 3V3 or 5V Microcontroller.
  • All necessary Components are populated.
  • Ultra-Low Power: 40uA in measurement mode, 0.1uA in standby@ 2.5V
